Joint Venture
When two companies set up a third business unit with joint ownership, the third business unit is known as a joint venture. Joint ventures are an effort to cooperate for competitive gains. An example is the NUMMI plant in Fremont, California. The plant is a joint venture between Toyota and GM, two fierce competitors otherwise. The plant produces both GM and Toyota automobiles.
